Dear Chuck
Another Great year and by our accounting a flawless Tournament! We did not
even hear a complaint from another coach. (You have told me that many times
coaches gripe. While there will always be "Bad Bananas", complaints are usually
only attempts to improve an already great situation. They are merely advocates
for their teams.) I know that they sometimes can be
pretty difficult, but I wish to encourage you. Thanks for the tireless efforts.
The Freeport Invitational is like no other that I have participated in,
either as an athlete or coach. The true spirit comes through and it hardly
matters who wins or loses. I heard so many coaches say that, but when it came
down to the games themselves, it was quite a different story. Both the
tournament itself and the participating coaches seem to possess that true
amateur spirit. You have managed to bottle the founding purpose of the Olympics.
I’m looking forward to seeing you and your good-looking wife, next year, I
remain
Gratefully Yours,
Edward Major
Hi, my name is Shawn Chalmers, I'm from Barrie, Ontario
Canada. I was a
member of the Newmarket, Ontario Canada team that attended your tournament
all the way back when it first started (in 1994). we also attended in 1995. I
then attended again in 1996 as a member of the Barrie, Ontario Canada team,
and again in 1997 as a member of the Tottenham, Ontario Canada team. I was
just writing to see how the tournament is doing today, if it's still going
strong, and if you're still getting alot of international teams attending.
I would also like to thank you for all the help that your tournament has
done for me as far as exposure to universities and colleges. I attended
Bellevue University, in Nebraska on a full baseball scholarship from
1999-2001. I was recruited by them because they first saw me play in
Freeport. Also, I have been scouted by a few major league teams as well,
who also first saw me play at your tournament.
So, once again, I'd like to thank you for inviting the teams I've played
for in the past to Freeport, and to wish everyone of you the best of luck,
and health in the future. I would love to be able to get down there in the
near future, and see everybody again, and to take in a few ball games as
well. Take care, and I hope to see you all again soon, "eh!"
Shawn Chalmers
ps-there were some good friends I had made while I was down there, but
have lost touch with them. Their names were Stacey Nesbit, and Jessica
Baroni. If you know of anyway I could get in touch with them again, please
let me know. thanks!
