Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has returned to the UK following a tragic car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his closest friends. The 36-year-old was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck on a major expressway near Lagos on Monday. Joshua's friends, Sina Ghami and Latif "Latz" Ayodele, tragically lost their lives in the accident. Their funerals will be held at a London mosque on Sunday. Joshua was taken to the hospital and discharged on Wednesday. The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged at Sagamu Magistrates' Court on Friday, facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving. He was granted bail of 5 million naira (£2,578) and remanded pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions. The case has been adjourned until January 20. Joshua, who was born in Watford, has family roots in Sagamu, a town in Ogun state near the crash site. At the time of the collision, he was en route to visit relatives for New Year celebrations. The boxer had been in Nigeria after his recent victory over American YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on December 19. This incident has left the boxing community and his loved ones in shock and grief, prompting a call for reflection and a reminder of the fragility of life.
