Eastern Washington's 'Train Dreams' Stuns with Oscar Noms
A local production supervisor, Marc Dahlstrom, was taken aback when a friend from the East Coast called him early Thursday morning to congratulate him on something extraordinary. Filmed in Eastern Washington, the movie showcases familiar locations for Spokane locals, such as the Davenport Hotel, The Spokesman-Review building, and the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest. A local crew ensured the film's authenticity, with over a third of the crew based in Spokane. Dahlstrom believes this will put a spotlight on Washington, especially Eastern Washington and Spokane, highlighting their capabilities.
Since the nominations were announced, Dahlstrom's phone has been buzzing with notifications from friends and crew members. Andy Wert, the propmaster, is particularly excited, having worked on multiple movies nominated for Academy Awards. He saw the nominations coming, feeling the project's special energy. Wert is now planning to celebrate with those close to him.
