iOS 26.1 Update: New Features and Improvements | Apple iPhone (2025)

Hold onto your iPhones, folks, because Apple has just dropped iOS 26.1, and it's packed with a bunch of nifty new features! This update, following the iOS 26 launch back in September, is designed to make your iPhone experience even smoother and more user-friendly.

Compatible with iPhone 11 and later, along with the second-generation iPhone SE, iOS 26.1 brings a host of quality-of-life improvements. Think of it as Apple giving your phone a little extra polish. But what exactly is new?

Well, for starters, there's expanded language support in Apple Intelligence. You can now use Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, and Turkish, among others.

Live Translation on AirPods has also expanded, now including Chinese (both simplified and traditional), as well as Italian, Japanese, and Korean.

Apple has also tweaked the interface for better viewing and navigation. Text and icons are now left-aligned for a more comfortable experience. Plus, there's a new video scrubber in Photos, allowing you to easily slide through animations frame by frame.

One of the most exciting updates is the revamp of Liquid Glass. You can now choose between the default clear look or a tinted look that increases opacity in certain apps and notifications on the lock screen. This makes them easier to read. There are also new toggles in the Settings menu for haptic feedback, single-touch actions, and the ability to swipe on the lock screen to open the camera.

But here's where it gets controversial... Apple has also tweaked gesture support, adding "Slide to Stop" swipe actions to Alarms and Timers. No more accidentally turning off your alarm when you're trying to snooze! The Music MiniPlayer now also supports swipes to go to the next and previous tracks.

Fitness enthusiasts will be happy to hear that the Fitness app now supports custom workouts, allowing you to tailor your exercise regime to your exact needs. Apple has also improved FaceTime audio quality in low-bandwidth conditions, so you can still hear your friends and family even if your signal isn't great.

To keep younger iPhone users safe, Apple has introduced a new Communication Safety and Web content filter system. This system automatically limits access to adult websites on child accounts for those aged 13-17 (age ranges may vary by region).

And this is the part most people miss... The update also introduces Apple's Security Improvements feature via a revamped Rapid Security Responses toggle. You can turn this on or off in the Settings menu, but it essentially means that security updates are installed automatically, helping to protect your device quickly.

Updating is easy: just go to Settings > General > Software Update. This update is available for all iPads and iPhones that are compatible with the iOS 26 update.

Apple has also released 26.1 versions of iPadOS, macOS Tahoe, tvOS, watchOS, and visionOS. As MacRumors noted, iPadOS 26.1 brings back Slide Over, a multitasking feature that Apple removed in ‌iPadOS 26‌.

So, what do you think of these new features? Are you excited about the changes, or do you have any concerns? Let us know in the comments below!
