LIV Golf's signing spree has sparked a thrilling response to the PGA Tour's recent moves, with the rebel league striking back in a big way. The latest signing, Australian sensation Elvis Smylie, has created a buzz, joining Cameron Smith's Ripper GC squad for the upcoming 2026 season.
But here's where it gets controversial... LIV Golf's actions are a direct counter to the PGA Tour's decision to welcome back LIV exile Brooks Koepka. In a bold move, the rebel league also announced the recruitment of Byeong Hun An and re-signed foundation star Dustin Johnson, who has committed to the Saudi-backed circuit for the long haul.
Smylie's signing is a significant coup for Ripper GC and Australian golf. The 23-year-old's breakout performance, winning the 2024 Australian PGA Championship over runner-up Smith, has caught everyone's attention.
"Growing up in Australia, golf is more than just a sport; it's a part of our culture, our history, and our sense of community," Smylie shared. "To be a part of Ripper GC, led by my mentor Cam Smith, at a time when Australian golf is thriving, is an honor. I'm proud to represent the future of the game and contribute to its growth."
And this is the part most people miss... Smylie's addition to the Australian team, which includes captain Smith, Marc Leishman, and Lucas Herbert, signifies a new era for the sport in the country.
"Elvis' signing is a game-changer," Smith stated. "He embodies the talent and passion that Australian golf is known for. With his ability to perform under pressure and compete at the highest level, we believe he will be a key asset to our team's success in 2026."
Smylie will make his LIV Golf debut at the Adelaide event, hosted by The Grange Golf Club, from February 12-15.
"Cam's vision has always been to create opportunities for young Australian golfers to shine on the world stage. Elvis is the epitome of that vision, and we're confident his skills will propel our team forward," said Nick Adams, General Manager of Ripper GC.
Meanwhile, Dustin Johnson, a two-time major champion and captain of 4Aces GC, has extended his commitment to LIV Golf, solidifying his future with the league.
Byeong Hun An will join forces with Danny Lee, Younghan Song, and Minkyu Kim at the Korean Golf Club.
As the PGA Tour offers an ultimatum to LIV Golf stars, the stage is set for an intriguing battle between the two leagues. Former world No. 1 Brooks Koepka's official return to the Tour has prompted the PGA to introduce the 'Returning Member Program', giving Smith, DeChambeau, and Rahm until February 2 to apply for reinstatement.
However, Smith has made it clear that he's staying put with LIV Golf. "I've made my decision, and I'm sticking to it," he asserted. DeChambeau and Rahm have also reaffirmed their commitment to the rebel league.
So, who do you think will come out on top in this golf league rivalry? Will the PGA Tour's reinstatement program be enough to bring back the rebel golfers? Or will LIV Golf's signings and vision for the future solidify its position? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
