Since stepping into office in 2023, I've consistently reassured our citizens of our firm dedication to upholding the security, cohesion, and steadiness of our great nation. This pledge holds strong, guided by divine principles and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Every Nigerian deserves the freedom to live, worship, and chase their dreams securely and with respect.
No individual should endure hardship simply for embracing and living out their faith, irrespective of their ethnic background or spiritual convictions. At the core of all major religions lies a deep affection for the Divine and for fellow humans, and these universal principles must unite us as an unbreakable, enduring family in our cherished country. But here's where it gets controversial: while we celebrate this shared idealism, some argue that historical tensions and inequalities between faiths in Nigeria suggest that verbal commitments alone aren't enough to bridge divides—could stronger, actionable policies be the key to true reconciliation?
Throughout the year, I've been fortunate to converse with influential leaders from our nation's primary religions, especially during times of heightened worries about religious intolerance and threats to safety. We'll expand on these dialogues to enhance teamwork between our government and religious groups, aiming to avert clashes and nurture a culture of serene coexistence.
