The Caribbean has lost a giant of the development movement. Dr. Warren Smith, a Jamaican economist and former president of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), passed away, leaving behind a legacy of regional development and leadership. Smith's decade-long tenure at the bank was marked by his unwavering commitment to guiding the institution and its member countries through challenging times, including two major global crises. His leadership emphasized climate resilience, disaster risk management, and innovative development financing, ensuring the bank's role as a trusted development partner. Smith's dedication to good governance, sound economic management, and strong regional institutions laid the foundation for inclusive development. The current CDB president, Daniel Best, praised Smith's mentorship and belief in the bank's potential to represent the region's interests. Smith's contributions were recognized with honors, including Jamaica's Order of Distinction (Commander Class). A condolence book will be available for public signing at the bank's Wildey headquarters in Barbados, paying tribute to a leader who left an indelible mark on Caribbean development.
