Sheffield Wednesday Target Zépiqueno Redmond: Aston Villa Starlet Linked in January Transfer Window (2026)

Sheffield Wednesday is reigniting its pursuit of Aston Villa forward Zépiqueno Redmond following the conclusion of his recent loan spell. The Owls are eager to bolster their roster as they face a series of injuries that have left their squad thin.

According to sources at The Star, Sheffield Wednesday has turned its attention back to Redmond in light of this month’s transfer window. With their Championship match against Portsmouth approaching at Hillsborough on Saturday, the team is under pressure to find reinforcements. The English Football League (EFL) has granted permission for the club to make two free loan signings before the deadline on February 2 at 7 p.m., which adds urgency to their efforts to support manager Henrik Pedersen’s struggling squad.

After experiencing a significant player turnover last summer and facing an ongoing injury crisis, the situation is becoming increasingly dire for the Owls. Following a recent FA Cup defeat to Brentford, Pedersen openly acknowledged that the team is in desperate need of assistance from the EFL.

At this moment, Sheffield Wednesday is restricted to acquiring only two free loan players, which limits their options considerably. Reports indicate that they are actively pursuing Manchester City’s young talent, Jaden Heskey, with discussions between the clubs already underway.

Additionally, The Star has revealed that Sheffield Wednesday is seriously considering a move for Redmond, who returned to Aston Villa after his loan with Huddersfield Town was cut short by mutual consent. The Owls had previously shown interest in the 19-year-old during the summer, attempting to secure his signature as the transfer window was closing.

Initially, Sheffield Wednesday appeared to be a promising destination for Redmond, where he would likely receive more playing time, especially given the team’s current limitations. However, financial constraints hindered any potential deal at that time.

After opting for a loan to Huddersfield, Redmond faced challenges there as well; he managed only three appearances due to a knee injury, which hampered his time in West Yorkshire. His last game was in September when Huddersfield was eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Manchester City.

Primarily a left-winger, Redmond also has the versatility to play as a central striker. The teenager had previously scored two goals in nine first-team outings for Feyenoord before making the move to England last summer.

With Pedersen actively seeking both a midfielder and a forward in this transfer window, it seems logical for Sheffield Wednesday to pursue both Heskey and Redmond as they look to enhance their squad.
