Timothée Chalamet's Golden Globe win is just the beginning! But for the actor, 2026 could be even more perfect, and it all hinges on a soccer team.
Fresh off his first Golden Globe victory, the French-American star shared a glimpse into his hopes for the future. When asked by Paris-Match magazine if 2026 could be “the year of Chalamet,” his response revealed a passion beyond acting. He stated that "for 2026 to be truly perfect, Saint-Etienne will have to be promoted back to Ligue 1 next season.”
He's talking about Saint-Etienne, the soccer team he passionately supports. This team is a historic name in French football, though it has seen better days. But here's where it gets controversial... they were relegated to the second tier last season.
Saint-Etienne boasts an impressive history, with 10 league titles to their name. They were dominant in the 1960s and 70s. However, this proud club, with its working-class roots, faced a decline in the 1980s due to a financial scandal.
Chalamet's love for Saint-Etienne comes from his father, and he frequently expresses his devotion to the team and its players.
Currently, after 18 matches this season, Saint-Etienne is positioned fourth in Ligue 2. They're just one point behind second place, which would guarantee promotion back to the top tier.
Chalamet, who is 28 years old, won his first Golden Globe for his role in "Marty Supreme" after four previous nominations. He's also considered a strong contender for his first Oscar.
